-
I just bought a Samsung camcorder (model SC-D372). When I opened the camcorder and I realized it had no USB cable/camera cord port in it. The camcorder takes mini Dv tapes and doesnt take memory cards ether! So I have no idea how I'm supposed to put my videos that I tape on to my computer! please if u can help do so, tell me what i need to buy or do. =D

Answer:
According to the technical specification, the camcorder has a Firewire (IEEE 1394) connection. Usually the cable is not included in the standard package. You'll need to find a PC with Firewire connection or buy an additional card to the PC. To import the video easily, you'll also need to get a home video editing software. For my case, I bought the Pinnacle Studio software bundled with the firewire card.

Check out if you have what is called iDV connection. It is not a USB connection. It is smaller. The iDV is a firewire connection that usually provide higher quality when transferring the footage. If you do have this connection, then be sure that your computer has a fire wire port ( also called IE1934). You can buy this connection from bestbuy or any such place. You will also need a movie editing software unless there is one provided with the camera. Magix Movie pro is simple and efficient. It cost around $56. If you don't have iDV on your computer is not firewire compatible, see if your computer has a TV card. If so, use the RCA connection cables provided with the camera ( RCA connection cable are the cable with 3 big jakcs : Yellow, Red and White) and connect it to your PC. you still need to use editing software and Magix just does the job. You can buy TV cards that do have firewire connection too.

You computer will read the mini-dv's. You just have to finalize them before the pc will recognize them.

You need a compositing cable transformer, or in other words a digitizer. There will be 3 cable inputs for the analogue signals to be converted to digital (red, yellow, white). They are relatively cheap and easy to find. The best are Canopus ADVC-50, Hollywood Dazzle or Creative Video Blaster. Alternatively you could by a TV card for your PC.
