What is the best external mic to use for live sound on video camera?

i recently purchased a canon vixia hf10 and am looking to buy an external mic to record live shows and just to have a better sounding set up. the live music will mainly be metal genre. i can't really find definitive answers online on what to buy so if you have experience in this i would greatly appreciate it. buying range is roughly 20-80; though i'm sure i'll ebay if a more expensive one is mentioned. thanks!
