How do I burn a DVD from hard disk camcorder?

• Sony Camcorder > Movie Maker > Playable CD or DVD My camcorder records onto digital tape. I want to transfer with USB or possibly firewire into my PC(s). One PC has Win 2000 Pro. The other is slower and has less hard disk space but runs Windows XP SP2. Once imported, I want to tweak and save. Then I want to burn to CD (because my home movies won't need the capacity of a DVD). Then I want to play them on my TV. I'm seeing references to Movie Maker, Roxio, Sonic, etc. Am I on the right track? Can I do it all on the Windows 2000 PC?

  yes you are on th right track - BUT Moviemaker will not import by USB - only Firewire Moviemaker does not run on Windows 2000 only XP Moviemaker cannot burn a CD or a DVD whch will play on a set top player - only on a computer. A CD is much much smaller than a DVD and you can only burn highly compressed video to a CD - and the quality will suffer - thus defeating the whole object of using a digital camcorder.
