If i record onto a dvd+rw on my dvd recorder can i then use the video footage on my pc?

To edit films on my pc I have to put them on dvd off my camera via my dvd recorder. Just its a lot of wasted discs this way. Could i use a dvd+rw and will that disc then work on my pc to import the footage on to my pc. basically, will dvd+rw recorded on my dvd recorder work on my pc.. thanks
