Where can I get PC generic software for a camcorder?

PLEASE HELP!!! My PC doesn't detect my camcorder?

  • I've got to get some film from our camcorder to my PC for editing. But my PC doesn't detect the "Device". I'm using Windows XP and only have USB ports. The Camcorder uses USB and Firewire. I bought a Sima USB Multi-Cable so I could try by the Firewire and USB. But it's still not detecting it. I know my USB ports work on my PC. I'm lost now. Do I need some kind of Video Cature Software other then Windows Movie Maker? PLEASE HELP!

  • Answer:

I had a similar issue where Pinnacle studio was not detecting my camcorder at all. At the time i was connecting through USB. I then tried fireweire connection and Pinnacle worked without any problems. I still don't know why USB was not working but if you can try firewire.

If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder…. Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode.
