Is it possible to transfer video tapes to my computer?

Digital video records on tapes...transfer to computer?

  • i have a jvc mini digital video camera, and it records on tiny tapes. i want to get the videos on the tapes to my computer, and there seems to be a small, potential usb port beneath the battery pack. is it possible? also, the camera only records about and hour and a half of video. is there some way to increase that at all? and if the answer is no, does anyone have suggestions regarding a fairly inexpensive camera that DOES upload to laptops and takes longer videos?

    The "potential usb port" is probably a firewire port - digital video cameras that use tape transfer the video via firewire, not USB. If your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. Make you sure you know whether your laptop uses PCMCIA or Express cards - they're not interchangeable. You'll also need a firewire cable. You can get tapes a bit longer than an hour but they're quite rare and the advantages aren't that great. There are too many horror stories about people recording several hours onto hard drive camcorders and then losing the lot - just buy more tapes.

i got a sony camera at wal mart for about 200 bucks its great! it gets great picture and video and its amazing.

well 1st you can find little to big usb plugs either borrow one from a freind or a relative and 2nd you can find better longer tapes at wal-mart or wal-greens.

You need to buy a fire wire cable. It kind of looks like a USB port, but its not. It hooks up to your computer easily..
