How to take the video off of your camcorder and onto my laptop?
-
hello i have just got back from my holiday in germany and i took a lot of videos. before i brought a card that takes the video off of my camcorder and puts it on the computer but is only for those big, non laptop computers (sorry i cannot remember the name of them). the only computer of that type in our house is the family one which is really slow so the quality of the recorded video is awful. i have a laptop and it is much faster. i want to know how i can connect my camcorder onto my laptop. my laptop has: USB 2.0 (4) Integrated 10/100 LAN (RJ45) and 56K Modem (RJ11) IEEE1394a 8-in-1 Memory Card Reader VGA video output & S-Video HDMI high definition video output 1 ExpressCard 54mm Slot Integrated dual digital mics Dual headphone jacks Microphone jack some of those are nothing to do with it but just in case. my camcorder records onto a mini video cassette and does not record onto an sd card. please help. -josh

When you bought your camcorder, it must have came with a USB or Firewire (IEEE1394) cable. You can use either of those cables to connect your camcorder to you laptop. Once the camcorder is connecter you can user Windows Movie Maker software (comes with XP, not sure about Vista) to transfer the video's to your computer. You can also buy video editing software in the market. good luck J

It looks like you will need a video capture device for your USB2 or Expresscard slot, and software to access it. Take a look at some of the video capture devices here - I saw some USB2.0 and ExpressCard devices with video capture. I know nothing about these individual devices. You'll have to look up reviews on the web to find more discussion of their features and functionality. You might also find something for IEEE1394a (Firewire) but I think that is more for digital video cameras. http://www.geeks.com/products_sc.asp?cat=863
