How many places are there now where you can't take photographs or use a video camera?
-
I used to do photography of myself and my family. In 2007 I stopped as I thought the laws were tightening about where you could not do photography. I know that when it was my christening back in 1990 which was the first film of me you weren't allowed to do it in churches as my uncle got into trouble for filming inside the church. Now there are many more places that you can't film in. Some of them are due to the child protection act 1994 as you can't do it in swimming baths as I got told not to back in 2005. At a swimming bath I went to in a holiday park today a family tried to take a photo of their 2 little girls on an amusement ride in the reception but got told of by the manager as the swimming pool was just behind them. They did look a bit confused about why. Other places I know you can't do photography is in theatres, military typed based and certainly not cinemas as you break the laws of copyright there. I just wonder if there is anyone who knows these things below. 1. Where can you still do photography now? 2. Is there a website with all the different places where it is forbidden? 3. When did these places get a photography ban and which places were the first to ban photography?

Answer:
It is happening all over the world and for the reason(s) you stated. But as you know, the public is being video tapped just about anywhere in public by local governments, like in shopping malls, etc. The best way to know if you can use a camera is to ask the property owner/manager, government agency, etc, if you can. Some cities require a permit to shoot movies, especially a production film. At our local public pool, it is okay for me to shoot my friends but it would raise suspensions and make people uncomfortable if I was photographing other people. The law in my State have a little bit of room on that; a person in a public place is not expected full privacy. But you have to use common sense. Like street performers will hold their hand up indicating they don't want you to take their photo and they have that right. Most just want you to give them money first :). My daddy was video tapping me when I was younger at my basketball game. He had two parents (from the opposing team) ask him who he was shooting. They were okay once he told them. Just ask first and use common sense and be very polite. My daddy sometimes gets offers from people who want to pay him to shoot their families if they see him with all his gear at my games.
