Does Final Cut Pro 7 Import better the Imovie 09? Editors please HELP!?

  • Ok i have HD footage i shoot using sony HDR FX1 camera in 1080i, whenever i am importing the footage in imovie 09 it looks perfect no video noise at all, but when its done importing and i try to edit the project i see noise in the video...i use proper lightning. I have FCP7 i was wondering should i use this instead will it not reduce video quality like imovie 09, Ps. My imovie 09 settings are all for Full HD format...i double checked all my settings...please help

  • Answer:

You did not tell us what the FCP capture preset is... When set properly, the high definition video from the HDR-FX1 captured by iMovie 09 (or newer) and FCP should use the same "Apple Intermediate Codec". (You can see this in the imported MOV file's "information"... The "Capture Scratch" files for FCP; the "iMovie Events" for iMovie). My iMovie 09 preferences show: Video Standard: NTSC - 30 fps Import HD video as: Full - Original Size (Sorry - I do not see a "Full HD format" selection.) My Final Cut (Easy Set up) preferences show: Format: (all formats) Rate: (all rates) Use: Custom Setup Sequence preset: Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 Capture preset: HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec Device Control: HDV Firewire NTSC Playback Output Video: Digital Cinema Desktop Preview (this should not matter) Playback Output Audio: Built-in Audio (this should not matter) PTV Output Video: None (this should not matter) PTV Output Audio: None (this should not matter) I use a HDR-FX1 (and HDR-HC1), import over firewire, most regularly to a 24" iMac running OSX 10.5.8...
