How to get recorded video from camcorder to PC?

I have a Panasonic camcorder that can take pictures & video. I have a firewire connection and I can take pictures through windows explorer and have them saved directly to my hard drive. I can also see what is displayed on the camcorder in windows explorer but theres no way to save video or record it. What I really need to know is how to get recorded video(& pictures) from the camcorder? I have done this before(somehow it was awhile ago) cause i have pictures and video in windows movie maker from the camcorder. Qs What I really need to know is how to get recorded video(& pictures) from the camcorder? (from windows movie maker, windows explorer, whatever) Note: the software(PhotoVu Link) that came w/ the camcorder doesn't work, and Panasonic doesn't help.

If you have a mac you can use final cut studio using the video capture feature. But if you have a pc there is a bunch of software from corel and adobe that makes it very easy
