How can I upload my widescreen camcorder videos to my computer?

Brand of Camcorder that you can upload videos to computer??

  • I have bought and returned 3 camcorders in the past two days because i can not upload the videos to my computer! I call the companies and they tell me the software that comes with the video cameras (JVC, Samsung, Aiptek) is for only to upload pictures, and that i have to buy different software and firewire stuff. I just want a video camera that i can upload the videos to my laptop with that i dont have to buy extra software for!

    Sony has a camcorder that burns directly to a mini-dvd. Once you finalize the disc, you can put it into virtually any computer that as a DVD-rom. To put the video on your computer at that point is drag and drop. Panasonic has one as well. Avoid that one because they use a dvd format this is mostly retired.

you have to ask yourself, do I want ease of use or quality? With the kinds that write mini dvd, you get ease of use, but only if you want the video on your pc and not to do anything with it. If you want to edit it, you have to convert it to some other format. And the quality of those videos is much worse than mini-dv. Mini-dv has a learning curve to it, you have to have a firewire card but they are cheap. You have to learn to capture, but it's not really very hard.
