Which digital camcorder would you recommend for my purposes?
-
I am in desperate need of a camcorder with which I can easily transfer the footage directly to my laptop. The best option to me seems to be a DVD camcorder or a digital camcorder...unless those are the same thing...but anyway, you get the picture. I need a camcorder that has decent recording time--preferably two hours or more, or at least ALMOST two hours. (What is UP with these eighteen-minute models??? WHAT can you do with that???) Anyway, I also need a decent quality picture. It doesn't have to be perfect but, if the picture is ugly, it does no good. I don't care about whether or not it takes good still images, or if it takes still images at all for that matter. I'm no too concerned with features because I'll be basically shooting the footage, uploading it to my computer, and editing it Windows Movie Maker. Hence, all the editing can be done on the computer and features aren't so important. I need all of this for around $300 if possible--is that dreaming? At least no more than $500.

Answer:
For between $4-500 you can get a high-quality Panasonic 3 chip (3CCD) mini dv camcorder, PV-GS320. This is the best quality video you'll get for that price. Most camcorders in this price category are single chip (1ccd). DVD and hard disk are easier to use but the quality of recording is poorer. Most pcs today have a firewire card and it's not that hard to learn to capture video, then write to a dvd. You will only get 1 hour of high quality video with one cassette, but when the cassette is you just remove it and load another one in. The cassettes are relatively inexpensive, you can get a 5-pack on amazon.com for $12. http://www.kozenrufu.com/Jameskan/

You must choose HDD cam. But I wonder is not within your budget. You should spend more to get what you really want.

I like you am looking for the same kind of thing. Do what i do look on ebay, you can get what you want for a better price, ive done this with my GPS and a digital camera and saved hundreds. So for $300 i would take a look on there.
