I HAVE A CANON CAMCORDER ES50 PROBLEM.

Problem with Canon ZR60 camcorder - USB Device Not Recognized?

  • Canon ZR60 camcorder, it recorded something onto a tape. It is very important that I transfer the data on this tape onto my computer, but when I plug the cable from the camera into the computer USB port (firewire adapter cable) it gives me a "USB Device Not Recognized" error message. I have tried ports both on the front of the computer and direct-to-motherboard on the back, and made sure to try a wide variety of ports on each side in the event that some were out of date too long (i used the port I normally put my flash drive in. It is extremely important that I move the data from the tape to my computer as quickly as possible, because it had to do with a life-threatening hospital stay. I have pulled up "my computer", where it SHOULD display the camera, but it isn't there. However, the USB port does register as occupied... the computer just does not seem to know what exactly is occupying the slot. The camera is borrowed. I borrowed it from a friend while I was in the hospital. I have also tried it on a different computer. The end goal is to transfer the data from the tape to my computer as quickly as possible. Apparently Target (store) offers a service to convert it to a DVD format, but they told me this would likely take three weeks at minimum. Considering the fact that I built my own computer, I was fairly appalled at this. However, I am aware that a camera and a computer are not the same thing. I am drawing a blank and do not know how to fix this and am running out of time. Can someone please help address either of these problems? P.S. - I've also been to Canon's website to check if I was missing some software camera drivers, and it says there wasn't any released for the camera >.> Specifically, I went here. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/camcorders/minidv_camcorders/zr60#DriversAndSoftware Can anyone help me with this problem?

  • Answer:

you are using a firewire to USB converter. as you found out, those don't work. you need to get a ieee1394 card for your computer and then the video will transfer properly.

suggestion Maybe the person from who you borrowed the Canon from has an IEEE1394 (Firewire) port on their computer. If so,they may capture the files for you and copy to external drive so you can transfer them to your computer.
