How do I turn off the power on the JVC Everio CAMCORDER?

I don't know how i turned it on... i think i just opened the flap.. so i figured to turn it off i just close the flap when i woke up it had no battery left so i am wondering, is there an off button? or is my camcorder faulty

It helps to know the model number but I have a JVC camcorder that works like yours. Yes, when you open the LCD door the power comes on. If you leave the camera in a stand-by mode that will also leech out some of the battery. In general it is best to remove the battery when not in use. This can slow the drain. It won't stop it but you might get more use out of the battery. What I would do is totally charge the battery and then remove it from the camcorder. That way if you have an impromptu recording situation you can bet sure that you have some juice to record with.
