I need cheap HDV camcorder.

Firewire problem for my pro camcorder!?

  • alright, so I am very furious with the problem I am having right now. You see, I pretty much spent a fortune on this damn apple imac thunderbolt for one reason, so I could get myself a very nice, expensive, HDV camcorder and not ever have to worry about a DV problem, and getting that on a computer. But it turns out, im wrong again. The computer doesn't have any firewire ports, or at least I dont see one. Can someone help out here? Is there an adapter I need to get, or what? If there is nothing I can do at this point right now, then I just spent a whole lot of money for no reason...

You did not tell us which Mac... but the only ones without a firewire port are the current MacBook and MacBook Air laptops. All other Macs - MacMini, iMac, MacBook Pro and MacPro tower currently in production do have a firewire port. The specs for the current Macintosh product line would be useful to look into when purchasing for such a specific reason. Check the "Connections and Expansion" in each of the products... MacMini http://www.apple.com/macmini/specs.html MacBook Pro http://www.apple.com/macbookpro/specs.html iMac http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html MacPro Tower (this one's under "connections and audio") http://www.apple.com/macpro/specs.html There is no method to add a firewire port to the MacBook Air or the MacBook (some earlier MacBook models did have a firewire port - I have one...). If using a computer or replacing your computer with one with a firewire port is not feasible, then the only suggestion I have is to import analog with an analog/digital converter - like the one Elgato makes.

Like MMMj up there says, Most MACs come with a firewire port. If you have one without a firewire port, I have seen a webpage where MAC shows a a firewire card that you can shove in the side of your laptop. That page was dated 2008, so visit your local MAC store and see what hey can do for you.

Are you sure it does not have a Firewire 800 port? You may be able to work from that.
