Why won't Windows Movie Maker import my video?

Why does an error message pop up when i try to import a video to windows movie maker?

• i have a windows vista computer and i try to import a video to windows movie maker the only videos that come up are just the sample videos but not mine and i look for mine but there not there so i go to my pictures and i see the video and i drag it but it says this The file C:\Users\Windowsvista\Pictures\newyork pictures\195.MOV cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again. so what does this mean????? what do i have to install???? does it matter if my videos are under the windows media player???   I have the exact same issue! I'm trying to find a different editing device, so I can edit my video, then upload it on youtube, but Windows Movie Maker won't let me. I've tried installing things, and changing the code, but it doesnt work. Try and find a different editor, if you can. And if you DO find one, or figure out how to fix it, oh, please please please tell me!
