Questions about recording with camcorder in widescreen 16:9?

  • Here are the details. 1. I bought a camcorder with 16:9 (widescreen) recording capabilities. (Canon Elura 100) 2. I currently have a 4:3 standard screen TV. 3. I want to record in widescreen for a future widecreen TV which I plan on buying. 4. I can edit a movie on Windows Movie Maker and I can save the file in 16:9 mode. 5. When I watch the saved file on Windows Media player, it plays undistorted in widescreen with black bars on top and bottom. No problem. 6. If I burn the file to DVD it compresses the widescreen to a fullscreen so it's distorted on the 4:3 screen. That's not what I want. I expect to see black bars. QUESTION? Is this because my DVD burner program (Roxio MyDVD) doesn't have widescreen burning capabilities? 7. I record in widescreen mode and I want any DVD I burn to play in widescreen with black bars on my current 4:3 TV and I want it to fill up my TV screen when I purchase a 16:9 TV in the future. Either way, I don't want distortion. Help before my honeymoon!

  • Answer:

it's not the burning software but rather the settings you are using when you burn to a dvd. Make sure to set the aspect ratio to 16:9 (you can find that in one of the tabs to set it) just like my nero6.6 which has a default setting of ntsc and 4:3. You need to always set it to your desired aspect ratio everytime you burn. glad to be of help
