Kodak zi8 memory card?

Kodak zi8 MUST have class 6 sd memory card?

  • Everyone says that shooting in HD won't work with anything less than a class6 SD card, but what if I am willing to use lower video quality? Could I use a class4 SD card if I am shooting in the 720(30fps) mode or WVGA?? I plan to buy a class 6 card no matter what for cases when I will want to shoot in HD, but for the most part, I don't need anything more than WVGA quality video. I just don't want to spend any money on a class4 card if it has ZERO functionality for the camera...but I do like the lower cost! and again, I would sacrifice video quality in most cases to be able to buy a card with more space even with the slower write speed...but if class4 won't work at all, then there is no point i suppose. HELP!

  • Answer:

A camera's firmware determines what Class speed is needed. There are very few cams that require Class 6 or higher. Those are best for uncompressed data like for high resolution still images recorded in many frames per second. But that is not necessary for your camcorder because video is highly compressed and doesn't need a super fast speed card. I use Class 4 in all my video cameras and digital cameras and have never had an issue with buffer lag.

I have a zx1 and I have a class 4 card that I use at 720p 30fps and it works fine, so it would probably work.
