Which Camcorder to buy?

Why is it everytime i post a question of which camera to buy people tell me to buy a camcorder instead?

  • I mean.. idk what makes a camcorder better at video than a photography camera is.. I mean i\ve seen those video tests on youtube. In comparison the photography camera Canon EOS 600D seems to be pleasing me more than a camcorder. Camcorders' images look too clean if that makes any sense.. So why is it better for video again? The test videos i saw of canon.. i mean the image quality of the video looks like a movie which is great! It does need to be focused though and this may take a while but the results is worth it, right? What's your opinion cuz i don't know much about cameras in general.. and atm i want to buy one for video mainly.. But i want one that can make nice images. (as in video images) Thanks

  • Answer:

Camcorders have been around for 30 years and their functions have been highly refined to maximize performance. digital cameras added video as an after thought about 4 years ago. Camcorders can automatically trace white balance, maintain focus, zoom and record audio all while shooting the scene. Most digital cameras can't do at least one of these functions. Camcorders are balanced in design to make holding steady without the aid of a tripod easy. Digital cameras are front heavy and awkward to hold at best. Camcorders can record a complete performance or wedding. Digital cameras are limited to 9 to 12 minutes continuous HD video before needing to reset. Most people comparing digital cameras to camcorders take a $1500 dSLR system and put it up against a $150 Flip. If you compare dollar for dollar, you find that digital cameras don't deliver a free lunch. If you want to take the best still images, then a camcorder with a photo option won't deliver good results. If you want the best video, then a dSLR is light years behind the equivalent camcorder. Cross-over cameras are highly compromised by design and far from optimum.

If you want it mainly for video then thats why people have sugged a camcorder. A camera can take video adequately but are designed for infrequent use. A camera in video mode will drain a battery in no time, also a camera does not have as much memory capability as a camcorder. However, If you are aiming for occassional use then just go with what you feel and buy a camera - to have the best of both worlds :)

If you are looking to buy a digital camera with heavy specs, you should try Canon EOS Rebel T3i. It is an 18 MP camera with DIGIC 4 imaging. Binary Store has these good quality digital cameras. There are so many other on their list page to choose from.
