How much would a repair cost for a camcorder?

I have a samsung camcorder that'll play ok, but when i try to record, a flashing sign PROTECTION appears.?

  • it's a basic mini dv camcorder, no memory card, DP-101, I have taken it to a camera shop and they have advised me that it will cost anything up to £150 to repair the machine. is there anyway I can remove this myself without having to pay this extortion amount of money. I have checked the tape and that is not protected. the batteries are both working ok.

    the proection sign is either because of the camcorder thinking the tape is protected or because the source is protected, like if the signal comes from a macrovision copy protected tape of dvd. so if you try to record something coming from the camera itself, the sensor for the tape is not working. maybe it's an optical sensor and it's dirty, try to clean it with a Qtip with some denaturated alcohol. if it's mechanical, it may be bent, use twitzers. If it's really broken , you needd to take it appart and repair it (or you could remove it. The small drawback is that you may tape over some tape that has the proection on) Good luck

looks like me and you are having the same kind of problem , with the same camcorder. mine keeps going fuzzy when trying to record. looks like they are just a bag off poo

If your record protection tab on the cassette is set to the correct position, and it's still not letting you record, and you've tried another cassette, it sounds like the sensor in the camcorder for detecting the tab position is faulty and it will need a repair. :-( Note also that if you try to record footage from the output of a DVD player, the camcorder will block your attempt to do so.

girl, did you put the protection tab on the tape?

the PROTECTION only appears when the tape is protected... try a new tape or wiggle the red tape protection button.. good luck

Its to basic, get a new one. Oh and that means you need to put a condom on it.
