If you want to edit, miniDV tape is best - and your computer needs a firewire port - USB will not transfer the video from the tape. You will need to buy a firewire cable, too. You *can* edit video from hard disc drive and flash memory camcorders - but you need to be very careful about the process flow. What happens in 2 years when you want video you deleted? If you are using miniDV tape, and do onot re-use tapes, the video is still there on the tape to import. How are you planning to do this with hard disc drive and flash memory camcorders? Stay far away from DVD based camcorders. They barely make useful doorstops.
