Take a hint from the professionals: http://bssc.sel.sony.com/BroadcastandBusiness/minisites/HDV/products.shtml http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ProductCatIndexAct&fcategoryid=172 http://pro.jvc.com/prof/attributes/category.jsp?productId=PRO1.1 http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/home.asp MiniDV tape. Price range $2,000 - $4,000 - but this is less than 1/2 of what you will be spending... Recommendations: Canon XHA1, Sony HVR-V1U, Panasonic HDX200 Others worth considering: Canon XL2, Sony HDR-FX1, FX7, HVR-Z1U, Panasonic DVX100B. Be sure to budget for: wired Shotgun mic wireless Lavaliere mics wired or wireless omni directional handheld mic XLR cables (2 @25 feet) If camcorder has only 1/8" mic in jack, you will need an XLR adapter from BeachTek high-capacity rechargeable batteries Tele lens wide angle lens fluid-head tripod Pelican or SKB cases Video lights (Bescor) battery belt (NRG Research) Universal Shock mount (for shotgun mic) - Sabra SMM-1 Graphite or other lightweight/strong Boom pole Headphones ... this should get you started...

if you are doing stuff for tv you may have to work within very specific parameters. some channels won't even except HDV while SD-DVcam is fine (ironically HDV is better). have a look at some of the big boys and check out the field gear. more often they have dvcam shooting 16:9 and the gear may be around $60K per unit. you will have to think about your project in terms of budget and requirements. if you are serious about broadcast and have a strict budget try to pursuade your producers into letting you use a HDV option. hope it helps!
