How can i connect a firewire cable into pc, if my pc does not have a firwire port.?

  • Is there any adapter or any other device that can be used in stead? I am trying to connect my camcorder to a pc to upload movies and i found out lately that my camcopredr in fact had a firewire port, which I wasn't aware of, but the problem is now my pc. can anyone help me please? Thanks

  • Answer:

Yes, buy a firewire or 1394 PCI adpater card. Google it and you'll find loads. 1394B is even faster but more expensive.

There are two ways, either buy a PCI Firewire card ( these typically have 3 or 4 Firewire ports) and insert it in a spare PCI slot in your motherboard. or buy a USB2.0 Firewire Adapter and plug it into a spare USB Port. Personally I would go for the PCI Card option. There are other variants on this which are called Combo Cards. These have 3 extra USB Ports and 3 Firewire ports. All should be available from any half decent Computer store or on line supplier. Cost should be less than £10.00 for the PCI Firewire option, about £15.00 for the Combo option.

A firewire card is very easy to fit and you should be able to do it yourself - but to help you go and have a look at this video :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI9y0l27-UM You will also need some capture and editing software and this article will explain what to do after you have installed your firewire card. :- http://phpbb.ulead.com.tw/en/viewtopic.p... The software being used is Ulead VideoStudio - you can download a free trial to see if it works for you from :- http://www.ulead.co.uk/vs/runme.htm... ~

You will have to go buy one and then install it in your computer.

A new USB video cable from Pixela allows you to transfer raw DV from a FireWire camcorder to a typical Hi-Speed USB host desktop or notebook, and vice versa. This bridge cable, designated PIX-UVCD/U1W, is handy for those who do not have a FireWire port on their PCs. Transferring video back to the camcorder will require Service Pack 2, which supports driverless installation of devices that comply with USB Video Device Class 1.0. Pixela recommends a 64MB or higher video card and 15GB hard drive space for video editing with ImageMixer 2.0. Other manufacturers also make Fire wire to USb cables just do a search on computer for Fire wire to USB Cable.
