Answer:
Generally Windows Movie Maker support .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv. If you use Vista it also support .dvr-ms. So you can convert your DVD video to any of them above, I recommend you Aiseesoft DVD Ripper. It could easily rip DVD to MP4, H.264, AVI, MP3, WMV, WMA, FLV, MKV, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, 3GP, 3GPP, VOB, DivX, Mov, RM, RMVB, M4A, AAC, WAV, etc. with super fast DVD ripping speed and excellent image and sound quality. It also can edit the DVD movies, such as trim a video clip, crop the movie, merge several titles or chapters into one file and so on. Hope can help you!

As to my knowledge, DVD cant be imported to windows movie maker directly, in order to do it, u need to rip DVD to somewhat format that can be compatible with wmm like avi, wmv, mpg, asf etc, u generally need a DVD ripper to do it, i got one program recently, and tried, really good, and i'd like to share it with u, that's iorgsoft DVD ripper, just feel free to try

You need to rip (extract) the video files off the DVDs and then those videos need to be in a format that MM supports. You can use a DVD Ripper program. Then if you need to convert the videos, the link below has many, some are free.
