How can I connect my camcorder to my PC? HELP?

What software and cable can help connect my camcorder to my PC?

  • I own a Sony handycam ccd-trv 328 and I wish to connect it to my emachine PC model T2984...what software and cable do I need to connect my vidcam to my PC? Would the Dazzler work here or do I need something else?

    I would not use dazzler. you do need a firewall cable.It is very easy to connect your camcorder to the computer. There are several ways that can help you in connecting the camcorder to the computer. One of the most commonly used methods is connecting camcorder to the firewire port on the back end of the computer. Firewire port is also known as DV (digital video) which was conceptualized in 1985 by Apple computers. AC power should be running into your camcorder, but make sure it is not switched on. Now firewire cable’s one end should be connected to the DV port of the camcorder, whereas the other end of the firewire cable should be connected to computer’s firewire port. The computer recognizes the camcorder when it is turned on. You should also have the latest DirectX installed on you Windows based computer. Another method known as the “USB capture” is also used in connecting the camcorder to the computer. This can be done through the USB port present on the camcorder. This USB port doesn’t allow transfer of videos as they do not have sufficient bandwidth that can allow transfer of video having digital quality.

Don't use Dazzle, many people have had problems with their computers using them, me included. In the future, don't tell us the model but the 'type' of camcorder you have (dvd, mini-dv, hard drive, digital-8). I had to look it up and an important thing about your cam is it's an ANALOG camcorder. What you need is a capture card for your pc, which will come with capture software. I use a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-150 capture card for converting VHS to digital and it gives excellent results. They have lots of the on ebay for $50-60 plush shipping. Or you could give them to me and I will convert them for a fair price. I'd run them throught my standalone Time Base Corrector to fix any timing issues and jitter (common with analog video) before it gets to my capture card. http://www.kozenrufu.com/Jameskan/

You can get a firewire 4-pin to 4-pin or a USB cable. I would reccomend moviemaker as for software. If a 4-pin to 4-pin doesn't work, you might want to ask someone at Best Buy.

You only need the dazzle for converting analog to digital. I have one and it works good. If you don't need an analog converter, You need a fire wire cord to attach your camera to you pc (your pc must have a firewire card installed.
