Can a camcorder take pictures?

I want to buy a camcorder that I can also take digital pictures. Any advice?

    Try a few out in the store. Things to look out for: 1. How many pixels will you get in your photos (still shots) if less than 2,000,000 then your pictures will be blocky when printed. 2. How will you get the photos out of the camcorder? - I have a Sony and am unable to transfer still pictures out of the camcorder unless as freeze frames out via my TV - so I get rubbish pictures! - Ask the guy in the store if the camcorder can save the still images to memory card. I actually have a camcorder with good picture taking ability. I have the Canon ZR 600, which shoots superb video quality. The picture quality has been fine for me...able to print 4x6 perfectly, but not any larger. It's a great buy at crutchfield.com. Hope this helps!

There are lots of digital camcorders which can take pictures. But, mostly 1 - 1.3 MP or less. There are camcorders that can take more than 1.3 MP but the reviews are very bad about the images. For such bad images you will be paying higher cost. I don't think the merging of digital still and digital video technologies hasn't happened properly yet. Also, you need to check if there is a memory card slot to take the digital stills. Without that it is not easy to transfer the images to your computer.
