What is Genlock and what does it do?

I need help more easy information About Canon XH G1S. Can you help me?

  • HD-SDI/SD-SDI Out, Genlock In, Timecode In & Out, and Other Terminals I don't really understand what does exactly mean? I need to understand very clearly in easy English.

  • Answer:

SDI, whether HD or SD is uncompressed serial data interface. This is the camera's digital video output. Genlock when connected sychronizes the scanning of the camera to match other cameras in a multi-camera setup. Timecode is just that, a time stamp that is embedded in the data stream. The in/out allows multiple cameras to have matching timecode, which is an aid to later editing. Other terminals are auxilary in/out for audio, video monitoring, power connections and such. For use as a stand-alone HDV camcorder, none of these features are needed. They are for use in a multi-camera studio setup with a video mixer and external recording devices.
