How do I upload videos on my Handycam?

How to upload videos from a sony handycam dcr-hc38?

  • What cords do i use to upload videos onto the computer? or do i have to go buy a special one[cord]?

  • Answer:

The Sony DCR HC38 is a miniDV tape based camcorder. Firewire, IEEE1394a and i.Link are all the same thing. Your computer needs a Firewire 400 port. If it does not have one, they are generally cheap - and easy to install. Then, you need a Firewire cable. Connect the DV port of the camcorder with the 4-pin end of the Firewire cable to the Firewire port on your computer. Whether the computer end of the cable is 4-pin or 6-pin depends on the computer port. USB will not work. A USB to firewire converter will not work. Once the firewire port on your computer is working correctly, no other device (camera) specific drivers are needed. The camera needs to be in Plkay/Edit mode. Windows MovieMaker will "Capture" the video.
