What format should I convert my videos to before burning them to DVD?
-
I'm trying to convert a video file to the right format before burning it to DVD, and I don't know which format I should convert it to so I can play it in my dvd player. The options are: mpg, wmv, xvid, and a few others. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Preferably from someone who has experience converting videos and burning them to dvd. Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Most editing programmes do it for you , you just select DVD Pal or NTSC depending on which one you want & these options are usually found in the output/burning stage.

The video format you will have to convert your video to is MPG BUT its not as simple as that. there has to be two folders on the DVD one called Audio_TS and Video_TS Inside the video_TS folder there are a number of files not just the video files which actually use the extension VOB. You dont need a conversion program but you will need a DVD authoring program, that will put the video and folders into the right format. You do not say what software you use to edit the videos, most have (except Windows Movie maker) the ability to do the whole process from editing to burning the video. if yours does not then you will need to get software to do it for you Have a look here http://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/authoring-dvd if you look down the list there are some free ones, but others you need to pay for. If your software does it for you, then you need not bother. Good luck RR
