Does the Flip camcorder support firewire?

Help w/capture from Sony DCR-TRV280 via firewire?

  • Installed the software from the included CD (Picture Package). Got updates from Sony website and installed. When camcorder is plugged in, cable connected to 1394, set to "play/edit", it shows DV IN on camcorder display so it seems to recognize connection. But XP does not indicate recognition with "bing bong" sound and "new hardware found" usually associated with USB devices (this is iLink, or Firewire, or 1394). Two different video capture programs say "capture device not found", and all the hardware / device settings in XP look fine and say "device working". Dell support no help, Sony says its a computer problem or refers me to their Picture Package vendor who also was no help. Any other ideas?

  • Answer:

Here is a MS howto that covers Sony's iLink. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/moviemaker/expert/bridgman_02march25.mspx Personally...I would properly de-install that Picture Package software andclean your registry to get rid of all traces of it! Then attach your camera and XP should recognize it. After it has you can then install the Picture Package software if you want. In other words, no matter what peripheral...let XP find and recognize it first before installing software for it. Edit: Have you begged or borrowed a firewire peripheral from a friend and tried it just to ensure it isn't a hardware problem?
