Where to rent a professional camcorder?

Where can I rent (or borrow) a Sony Digital 8 camcorder or playback unit ?

  • My Sony Digital 8 camcorder was stolen and I need to transfer the old tapes onto new Mini Dv tapes, so I need the digital 8 camcorder for playback only - just for a few days !

    check your local yellow pages under "video". There may be a company in your area that can either rent you a Digital8 camera...which is unlikely...or be able to the transfer of your tapes for you..for a fee, of course. Digital8 was for the most part a format that only Sony supported and the format never really caught on, so D8 camcorders are rare. If there's no one local then google "video tape to mini-dv transfers" and you'll find many companies that can do the work. Shop around for someone near you with a good price and mail them the tapes. So..the question will be how many hours you have to transfer which will determine the cheapest way to go. hope that helps...

Buy a used one through eBay, use it to transfer your tapes, and then resell it through eBay. If you are a good shopper you should be able to get one for around $200 US. If you make a decent ad when you sell it you should be able to recover most, if not all, of your money. This is easier and may even be cheaper than to rent a D8. WK
