Computer won't detect hi8 video camera for editing! Help please!?

  • I have Mediostream neoDVD software that is supposed to help you transfer hi8 footage to the computer. I have all the adapters: one for audio, and there is a video plug in my computer all ready. I have the camera turned on and everything plugged in but it doesn't detect the camera! Someone please tell me what the problem is!

Are you sure the camera is set to act as hardware? Call the manufacturer of the camera and ask them to make sure it is set to act as hardware when hooked up to a computer.

check your capture card or probably u should install the camera`s driver or your software ins`t compatible with your cam. I use an Ulead software and I don`t have problems,by now.

Hi 8 isn't a digital format. Your computer won't recognise it. If your camera has a port chances are that it is for digital stills, not video. You will probably need a device like a dazzle or another USB based video capture device in order to download the video. Then the computer won't control your camera you will have to start it by hitting the play button on your camera, and then capture the video manually. In my opinion you would be better served in the future by purchasing a mini DV camera (A digital format.) and a firewire capture card. This would be controled by the computer. Hope this helps, Tony
