How do you upload video clips to windows movie maker that aren't in the correct format?
-
My camera broke and I had to get a new one. My memory card is the same, so I think it was the camera... Anyway, it would put the video file as .avi I believe and it would upload right to windows movie maker. My new camera's video files aren't in the correct format. When I try to upload them, it says "this type of file is not supported" and stuff like that. I like to edit and make movies and stuff and I can't get another movie editing program. ): How can I put the video files in the correct format? i have windows xp I think, so im not using the vista movie maker or whatever... Just the regular old one. Is there something like a cord or whatever I could buy or a setting on my computer I can change so that the files upload to the correct format? I've tried using various converters and they take way too long and freeze my computer, so they aren't an option. any help would be appreciated! thanks!

Answer:
WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER does not support all file types, not hd, mpeg4, mts, mod, mov or h.264 files. If your camera shoots in those formats you will have to convert to use WMM. Files associated with Windows Movie Maker Audio files: .aif, .aifc, .aiff .asf, .au, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .snd, .wav, and .wma Picture files: .bmp, .dib, .emf, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .png, .tif, .tiff, and .wmf Video files: .asf, .avi, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, and .wmv Vista WMM supports video files asf, avi, dvr-ms, m1v, mp2, mp2v, mpe, mpeg, mpg, mpv2, wm,and wmv http://www.handbrake.fr/ this is a free video converter. Hi, you can try the video convert I am using. It can convert popular formats to wmm compatible wmv format with ease at super high speed. http://www.vconsoft.com/video-converter/ You may download the trial version for evaluation. Hope it helps. BTW, AVI is container format, some of which cannot be accepted by windows movie maker. wmv is the most friendly.
