What type of camcorder should I purchase?

With the baby on the way, I'm looking to purchase a camcorder that I'll be using very often. I'm just having a difficult time choosing a good and reputable camcorder, most likely a flash memory camcorder. I'm willing to spend up to approximately $1,000. I appreciate any suggestions.

i actually use my digital camera as a camcorder. it doesn't have good sound but it has AMAZING graphics. but if you want to get a good longlasting durable camcorder for a cheap price, go for a flip camera
