How to use a SONY Digital Handycam?

How can I use a Sony HDRXR500V Handycam camcorder with a Mac?

  • I am going to be buying a new camcorder (hdr-xr500v handycam) and as I know the sony Picture Motion Browser (PMB) does not support Mac OS X. I want to be able to upload and edit in full HD without losing any video quality so is there a way I can use iMovie or Final Cut Express to put my videos on without losing the HD quality? I have bootcamp and if iMovie or Final Cut reduces quality or does not work, then will PMB work with Windows XP on bootcamp? I want to be able to edit on OS X. Sorry about this long question and thanks to anyone who can answer.

  • Answer:

Depending on what version of Imovie or FCE, you have will depend on have you need to handle the video, hopefully you have newer versions and they will import the video without a glitch. If you need to upgrade the software http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=final+cut&mco=MTA4MzI5ODk if its ok then it will work with your camera check this out http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014 The only way to know if PMB works is to try it, nothing to loose. Just a thought what are you going to do with the videos, put them on DVD or post them on the net, because you cannot put HD onto a std DVD it needs to be Blueray, or HDDVD, and by the time the video has been compressed to play over the net, you are not going to get the quality of HD Just a thought RR
