How can I put home videos on my computer?

How do I put my home videos on my computer from my (8mm) video camera (not a digital)?

  • I have windows XP and a HP computer, with the video jacks in the front of the tower. I would like to transfer the home movies to my computer. How do I do this. I have basic computer knowledge so please in laymans terms! :)

I assume your cam don't have these jacks like what you found on your computer, else, you solved your problem. Your cam might have an S-Video-Out & audio-out, you can buy these connectors at Ace Hardware. S-Video connector's other end should match your computer jacks. But I doubt that your computer's jacks are for video, those might only be for audios. In that case you need to buy a video capture card to be connected inside your computer. The cheapest I think are Leadtek & Pinnacle. Video capture cards generally have both connections for standard audio/video (like the one you can found on your TV) & S-Video so you won't have a problem if your cam has at least one. Softwares are included in the package but I must warn you, buy the product with the Plug N Play logo to avoid installation problems. I hope it helps.

Probably with a USB Cable or Get a Memory Card Reader if your camera supports memory card. The computer will automatically detect it :).
