Anybody know of a good camcorder?

Does anybody know if I can transfer old camcorder cassettes to DVD?

  • A couple days ago I found my grandpa's old camcorder and saw some footage of me when I was 2 and just wanted to know how I can transfer it to DVD.

  • Answer:

Yes, it's very possible. If you have access to something like a Tivo that can record what you plug in, then all you need is the right cables. If the camera is old, it probably uses RGB outputs, and you can just use an RGB cable like the ones for DVD players. Otherwise, you should be able to find the right cord for about $5 at Circuit City. Once you get it connected, the Tivo can record directly from the camcorder, store it on its hard drive and even burn it to DVD. This is your cheapest option. Another would be to find a high school student that does video work. With some basic video hardware and software from their home or school, they can easily do this for you. Lastly, their are services like through places like Walgreens that can transfer any sort of tape you have (VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS, 8mm videotape, Hi-8, Digital 8, miniDV, Betamax). That particular one is $25 for the first tape to DVD and then $5 for each additional tape. Depending on how many tapes you want transferred, this might even be cheaper and easier than finding a video student. http://www.walgreensdvd.com/
