How can i convert a movie in avi format to mp4?

First, you must buy a UVI cord( you can purchase them at a local drug store, or Bestbuy). Then you need to download the program called Micromp4(look it up on google, just get a commonly used site). Once both of thouse items are fomaly purchased you plug the UVI cord into your mp4 outlet, and plug the other end into your avi componet located under your sinbade desktop. Once that occurs, a window should pop up with porn. Going from DV-avi to a MPEG-4 files will lose quality if you later try and BURN-that file to a DVD.. You can make the BEST DVDs if you BURN-directly to the DVD(format)..which is actually MPEG-2.. I have a ROXIO Software that converts to dozens of smaller formats.. I also have Vista Home Premium..which uses Windows[tm]Media formats-like wmv/wma..in different sizes.. I have found that the [Div X] format is a really good choice for "shrinking" your file down..and keeping the quality UP..and that is done useing ROXIO.
