What are “registry entries”, and why does a computer gradually slow down?

Can an accumulation of registry entries be slowing down my computer?

  • Answer:

Possibly. Try using a program like Registry Mechanic to help clean out a lot of unnecessary registry entries. Also it could be spyware. In which case run a couple spyware programs like Ad Aware SE or Spybot Search and Destroy. Also it could be unnecessary programs running on start up. Try downloading a program called Hijack This or Process Explorer and them delete them from the start up, this will not delete the program. It will just stop it from loading on boot up. Just Google them. Hope this helps.

Yes and Microsoft has a way to remedy it. Use the below URL to check it out and then download. When it does fix it puts a way to put them back in. What I do is that I always clean. Then if I want to clean later on, I put them back in and the clean again. This way I am always returning to my original new and all the ones I have added later. Maybe it is overkill, but I have no problems with the last 2 computers.
