Webcam Files WAY TOO BIG?

My videos that I record with my webcam are gigantic in size. A 6 minute video comes out to be about 6 gbs. How can I fix this? It is a Dell PC with a built in webcam. Windows Vista. Monitor Webcam SP2208WFP. Dell Webcam Center Version 2.02.07. Video is set to 640x480.

Many freewares exist to convert videos to XviD or x264. m4ng, pocket converter, etc. Google is your friend : "convert video file"

I've found Microsoft Expression 3 to be a good video encoder that drastically reduces file size. You can also try onlineconvert.com. If you are recording webcam videos to send to people you can try one of the free video mail services (mailVU, eyejot, etc.) that streams the videos instead of sending the huge files.
