Why is my sound not working in ubuntu?

Having issues with flash player in Ubuntu, need some help?

  • I have the most recent version of Ubuntu installed and running perfectly fine on my computer. Its been quite some time since I used Ubuntu so I need to get familiar with the set up again. Because of that I had a some problems getting my sound to work. I had my brother fiddle around with it for a bit after I 'thought' I had tried everything. He couldn't figure it out. So I got back on later that night and started from the top and worked my way down to realize I overlooked the simplest thing . . . . . . the mute button. I didn't realize there were a couple different mute buttons and after opening up my master control I realized otherwise. So problem fixed. The new problem was created after I let my brother attempt to tackle the sound issue with my computer. Because certain sounds worked, for whatever reason he jumped to it being a flash issue. He tinkered around with that for awhile and after he was done I could no longer use flash websites. So when I go places like 'YouTube' for example I get asked to install a flash player. Other websites I just can't view the content. Which is starting to get a bit annoying. Now I have installed Adobe Flash Player at least 5 different times now and its installed and current. I'm completely lost as to why it wont work. I have checked my browser settings (Firefox) and everything seems okay. Any ideas why my flash player is not working? I'd greatly appreciate any assistance I can get on this. Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

No idea why this is happening, but I have had some issues with flash on ubuntu. It seems to me that flash runs sluggish on all linux distributions, and it has its various issues. Go into synaptic package manager, search the word "flash" and completely remove everything that is flash. Then restart the computer, and try installing flash player one last time. If that doesnt help, I strongly suggest going to http://ubuntuforums.org/ and making a post, because the support guys there know a LOT more about ubuntu than I.
