How do I boot my computer from a disc?

My computer is saying disc boot failure but when i take it to my girlfriends house it starts right up !?

  • so i take it back home it says disc boot failure insert start up disc so i take it back over there and it starts up no problems ! what gives !!

    Sounds as if your hard drive is loose. Most hard drives are on the side of the computer, unscrew the 2 or 3 smalls screws, sometimes it's located where the speakers connect, take it out gently and put it back in tight. Make sure nothing is loose in the casing it comes in, you can even take it out and put it back in, then put it back in the computer. If this works it was loose if it says disc boot failure again, buy a hard drive on Ebay, and reinstall it. You will need the CD for the operating system. Geeksquad is a rip off, find someone who can do it for cheaper or do it yourself. We live in a high tech world, this should be easy enough if you were able to take out the hard drive the first time around.

I assume this is a laptop? Your hard disk is probably loose. Pay attention to what you're placing it on and what angle it's at when you start it up. You may have to remove and reseat your hard disk (or GeekSquad can do it for free probably).
