Compatibility mode not working?

OS: Vista Ultimate x64 hey for some reason NO program at all on my computer can run in any compatibility mode. there is a program i need to work in "Windows XP (service pack 2)" compatibility mode.. but when i start it as admin or whatever it does nothing i check task manager and it is in the processes and apparently working... but whatever exe i choose the run doesnt come up at all... they work when i dont run in a compatibility mode but i need to run in xp sp2 to do what i want with it. is there a way all the compatibility modes would not work at all and how do i fix it thanks.

although XP runs in 64 bit, it is mostly not completely compatible with Vista, which is exclusively 64bit and wholly dependent on the Windows system drivers which are written OS specific
