Dvd question!!!?

DVD burning question ... am i able to burn dvd+r or why won't it work for me?

  • I have a dell inspiron 1525 and it says it has an Assembly, Dvd+/-rw, 8X, IDE SPSY, Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology i know i can read a dvd but i thought that meant i would be able to burn one does that mean that I am unable too? I just got Memorex dvd+r and tried to burn a movie to the dvd but it wont play on my apex ad 1200. When I put it back into my computer it shows that the disk has all free space left. I tried different programs and some programs took 2-4 hours to process and burn and sounded like it was doing something but nothing copied. wouldn't it say i don't have the burner instead of taking all the time and showing it burned? Does my computer not have the ability to burn dvds or are programs like windows dvd maker, dvd creator, and dvd flick and others not working?

  • Answer:

Some drives will say DVD-r and that means that it can read it but not neccisarily burn DVD's. You have to see if you have a burner. There is a difference between +r -r and -rw, you will need the corresponding DVD burner in order to burn on the appropriate DVD type. Next software is usually an issue as well as drivers. If you bought the computer as part of a package go to the website from where you got the computer from and they will usually have drivers for the DVD drive. I find windows can only burn CD's and not DVD's unless its just pictures or other similar files, otherwise you will need a seperate program to do so. For burning movies I use ConvertXToDVD this will change .avi .wmv and similar movie files to a format which DVD players can read. According to the Dell website your computer should be able to write DVD+R and DVD-RW discs. In this case try installing the DVD drivers or using the program I mentioned above. DVD Drivers from Dell for Inspiron 1525: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&ServiceTag=&SystemID=INS_PNT_PM_1525&os=WLH&osl=en&catid=&impid= I'm not sure if that link will work but I went to Drivers and Downloads -> Home User -> Laptop -> Inpsiron -> 1525 Scrolling down you select on DVD and depending on the DVD driver you added to your laptop chose the appropriate one and that will help it work.

I use DVDFab 8. Get it from http://www.dvdfab.com/ The free version lets you "rip" the DVD to your hard drive (remove copy protection) and you then burn it to blank DVD. The paid version (which I use) lets you do so much more and it's a lifetime license. Every time a new version comes out I get it free.

use a program like imgburn or magiciso google them ull find it

That DVD drive is able to "burn" DVD's. You are just not doing something right. The reason it won't play in your Apex DVD player is probably due to your not "finalizing" the DVD you burned. When you finish burning a DVD, you MUST FINALIZE it.

I recommend you another software, EM HD Video Converter, I have been using it for a long time, it can burn any videos and hd videos to dvd. You may have a try http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1440&bih=728&q=EM+HD+Video+Converter&aq=f&aqi=p-p1g3&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=

Your computer is capable of burning DVD's; the issue here is with the software(s) you're using or how you're using them. You could try this software: http://www.dvdflick.net/index.php

I think it's a right dvd burner drive and can be used to burn dvd+r disc, but first you should note, dvd+r disc only write once, you can't use a used dvd+r disc, please use a blank dvd+r disc to have a try, if failed, please clean this dvd burner drive lens, then try again, if still failed, I think maybe there's a compatibility problem between the dvd burner drive and your burning program, you can follow me to use a better program RZ DVD Creator to test your dvd burner drive, it built-in the high compatibility burner(compliant with all popular burner drives and writable dvd disc), I always use it to convert movies to video dvd format and burn onto the dvd+r disc, and play well on my dvd players, so I think maybe it can help you to fix your problem, you can yahoo or google search and download RZ DVD Creator, easy to use, hope these infos could help you.

If you wanna make a DVD that will work on a standard DVD player, you will need a DVD burning tool to do this. Just copy the movie to a DVD disc, it will actually not read by DVD players. The best and most reliable DVD burning tool that I've ever used is a tool called DVD Creator. It's able to burn all kinds of videos to DVD disc. After that, you can view the DVD on DVD player. It also lets you edit videos and create DVD menus. Easy to use and professional. You should really give it a try.
