How To Delete Folder with Powershell?

Can't get folder to delete...anyone help me?

  • Well my problem is that I can't get a folder to delete off of my external hard drive. Usually when I have this problem I can just disconnect, and reconnect the hard drive, and then delete it, but that isn't working this time. I've also tried unchecking "read only" in the properties, and still won't delete. The way it got there, is that I was helping a friend with his new computer, and he needed to download SP2, so I downloaded off the internet and installed. However, my external hard drive was plugged in, and it extracted the files to my external hard drive. It installed on his system, but for some reason extracted to my hard drive. I was assuming they are just "temporary" files for the install, and was just planning to delete them afterwards, but not the folder WILL NOT delete. All the files are gone, and the folders are like 1 byte, but they won't delete. The folder is a75a0e16f0d955f46d4187736093a435, and inside that there is a folder called i386. Any help is appreciated!

  • Answer:

Deleting files that will not delete can be frustrating. Ususally the problem is because the file is in use by windows and cannot be deleted. You can look in the task manager (ctrl + alt + delete) and look in the proccess tab. If you can find the culprit, just end that proccess and attempt to delete. If the file still does not delete you can boot into safe mode (tap F8 at boot repeatedly) and choose to boot into safe mode. This loads only the absolute neccessary drivers and you should now be able to delete the file. If the file still does not delete you can move on to the sure fire methods. Manually delete the undeletable file or get a program to do it for you. Follow the link below for instructions. The easiest way is to get a program, I recommend Remove on Reboot Shell Extension.
