Cannot Renew IP Address?
-
So I have an old Dell Latitude D510 my grandmother got rid of this month, and I have been trying to use it as a second computer to mess around with. It has a Dell Wireless 1370 Mini-PCI Card for wireless connection hardware, and for some reason I cannot get it to connect to our wireless router. Here's the ipconfig from the cmd line: Windows IP Configuration Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.2wire.net IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.xxx.1.65 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::214:22ff:febe:4f08%4 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.xxx.1.254 Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.xxx.254.82 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.xxx.0.0 IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::214:a4ff:fe56:5a3f%10 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Tunnel adapter Teredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::ffff:ffff:fffd%6 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Tunnel adapter Automatic Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::5efe:169.xxx.254.82%2 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Tunnel adapter Automatic Tunneling Pseudo-Interface: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : gateway.2wire.net IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : fe80::5efe:192.xxx.1.65%2 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : I have tried every trick that I can come up with in addition to those that I was able to find on the interwebs. Those that I have tried: "flushdns" from the cmd line. I have ensured that under "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) properties", "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server name automatically" are both selected. I have used the "netsh" command to reset the log and to revert to default settings. I have rebooted the router, reset the router, and left it unplugged overnight thinking that the ISP might reset something or give us a new IP address, which might in some way solve the problem. Didn't help. I updated the driver for the Mini-PCI card, thinking that may have been the problem. Still nothing... I have another laptop that connects to our router fine, and the desktop computer next to the router has no problem connecting, either. I'm actually writing this from said laptop, but from a wired connection to the router. It's strange because I have been able to connect wirelessly in the past, but for some reason today, things aren't working. I've tried using a static IP to see if I could connect this way, but I may have done it wrong. I don't think it worked. I've been using this laptop in the past as a connection point for my xbox 360, and have had problems with connection sharing (specifically, obtaining an automatically assigned IP address from the router for the xbox) but haven't had problems with internet connectivity for the laptop in the past, either. I don't know what happened. Thank you SO MUCH for reading this far. Any ideas would be great. Seriously, if you can solve this for me, give me your address and I'll mail you $5. I'm out of ideas. Thanks! Bob
