How do you delete files off of a disc?
-
i have music files on a CD, everytime i try to delete the files, it says "cannot delete files; they are read-only." when i look at the properties, and i uncheck the read-only box, it says it cannot be done, so i end up at square one again :/ can anyone help?

Answer:
They are saved on the wrong kind of CD. If you saved to a CD-R, they are read only. Once you close the disk, you can no longer write to them and you can never erase anything from them (although you can destroy them and make a new disk).

you can't delete files off a cd that you burned (except recently where rewritable cds have become available). the disc can't be reused or added to either, so I'm not sure why you are trying to erase the files. if you don't like what's on it, just copy the songs that you do like off that old cd and onto your computer, then burn a new cd with those songs and any new ones that you want.

It depends on what kind of cd's you get... There are some CD's called CD-RW's (for re-writeable) that you can burn files onto, then delete them and burn new files on, but there are some CD's that you can only burn files on once and you cannot remove them afterwards... you might have the latter type of CD, in which case you can't delete them.

If the CD is not rewriteable type (with RW e.g CDRW or DVDRW), there is no way to delete the files. Even if one has CDRW or DVDRW, if it is not in inCD format or equivalent, one cannot use the normal way to access the files. To see the file name in this case, will require CD burner or equivalen or special software but one cannot read it as normal file.

CDs are Read-Only. Once written to, that data can't be modified unless they are a CD-RW which you have to wipe the entire disk anyway. Sorry. Try something like a USB Drive of SD Card for a portable media that you can modify after. They're cheap and work way better than CDs.

There is Two Kinda Of CD's 1 - Writble CD 2 - Unwritble - writble Cd You Can Delete The Files And Add New Files Or Clean All The CD Unwritble You Cannot Delete Or Clean It Add Only New Data To The CD So Your CD Is Unwritble You Can't Delete IT PLease NOTE : You Need CD-WriterTo Add/Remove Data From Your CD You Can't Do This With CD-Rom

well unless the disc is a CD-RW or DVD-RW you cannot delete what is on the disc, and even if you have one of the above mentioned discs you cant delete certain things on the disc you must erase the entire disc.

if it's a CD-R, you can only put stuff on a disc once and not change it. if it's a CD-RW, you should be able to delete files. if it's a regular CD, don't waste your time.

It's impossible to delete information on a disk. The informations is really engrained onto the disk, and you really can't undo engravings! Sorry! I figured that out the hard way.

well you probably have a cd-r disc not a cd-rw. with a cd-r you can't edit files once they are on there, with a cd-rw you can.
