Can I change my name?

Help! I can't change my logon/logoff name in Windows.......?

  • When I sign in to XP my user name is already visible. All I have to do is type in my password. When I sign off it asks me, "log off (name)?" This is fine and all but I want to change my user name to something else. I can change it in, "user accounts" in control panel, however, if I do that and reboot, the name still remains the same as it was prior to me changing it. It defaults to the old name. Same goes for logging off. It doesn't actually CHANGE the name. HOWEVER......if I literally erase my old sign on name, and replace it with the name i just created, and type in the password I gave it........it accepts it. But why does it not actually APPEAR in the dialog box upon startup and why doesn't it actually APPEAR in the drop down box when I choose to, "log off."?? Why does it STILL show the OLD name??? Do I have to create a whole new account under my desired name and just delete the old one?

    The name that you are talking about appears to be not your user name, but your computer's name. You can change this by right-clicking My Computer and selecting Properties.

you could do that option.

very simple, Go to the start button, select control panel and select user accounts, after that select administrator and change the settings, delete any old user names after creating the new one and restart your computer, if that doesn't work call Microsoft they have very good service, and will gladly help you

go to start. click on it. then go to control panel. find user accounts. click on it. find your name and click on it. you will find things like change my password........ etc. when you find change my name click on it. then it will say type a new name for who ever. you type in the name and click change name. that is all you do. it is as simple as that.
