How do I change the file type of a video on my computer on Windows Vista?

One of my friends and I are going to make a collab video for YouTube, and she sent me the files from her computer (through Yahoo!) I downloaded them to my computer, and now when I try to put it into Windows Movie Maker it says: "The file C:\Users\Destery\Pictures\KinzTube Uploads\Syke Clip 2.MSWMM is not a supported file type, and it cannot be imported into Windows Movie Maker." I need to figure out how to change the file type on Windows Vista. Please help me! This is an important project....
