Bidding site like eBay?

Ebay. Cheating sellers, who else feels hard done by?

  • I recently was involved with a seller to buy goods on ebay. Once the auction ended it was apparent that the seller was bidding against me with another account. After complaining to ebay the seller had her accounts suspended. Now she is active again, she has been pursuing me to get me to purchase these goods. Naturally I have refused to take them, but now she has complained to ebay about this and I have now been issued with a non playing alert. The cheek of it. The worst bit is that ebay are taking her side. If ebay were doing their job, they would be throwing these sellers off their site, but it is clear they are more interested in their cut of any sale, no matter how dodgy, than running a reputable operation. The wild west is alive and well in ebay land. All they need is John Wayne, Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef and their outfit would be complete.

  • Answer:

They are supposed to take shill bidding seriously but in your case it appears they are missing the point.

I had a problem once with a seller who changed the final invoice amount, charged me twice for the postage and added double insurance, when I confronted her through email about it she sent me back 12 nasty mails and threatened to come to my home, so I then told her that if she attempted to do this I had evidence to prove she had threatened me. I contacted EBay and they didn't offer me any help. I have also been scammed through Pay pal and they dint offer help either, but both EBay and pay pal are quick to take fees from you. Just follow up on her feedback if she leaves you negative explaining what she did to you.

Okay, I am a Powerseller on Ebay. Unfortunately, there are tons of frauds on Ebay. They are not just on Ebay though, they are everywhere. You are referring to Shill Bidding & it is not only against Ebay rules it is against the law also. Are you sure that your seller was suspended for Shill Bidding? If so, they are rarely a registered user again very quickly although I have seen a seller back in a week. They can also get suspended for nonpayment of fees, non-performing seller, picture or text theft, etc. etc. If they file a non-paying bidder on you & you think that they bid that item up to that win price, then do not pay for it. They can not make you pay for the item. You will not be suspended from Ebay unless you have not paid for 2 other auctions in your past. If you get 3 of those, then Ebay will suspend you for an indefinite amount of time. The non-paying alert stuff is an automated system. Make sure you respond to the alert at least one time, saying exactly what you said here, you were a victim of shill bidding. The reason I am telling you to respond to the dispute is if they close that dispute & you never responded, they can leave you a negative & you CANNOT leave them one back. After they close the dispute & give you a strike you can go here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/appeal-upi.html & appeal the strike with Ebay, chose "other" as the reason on the appeal form & plead your case. You may not win, but other than the negative they may leave you, nothing else will if it is the first time you have not paid for an item. Good Luck to You! & there are lots of honest sellers on Ebay. I promise you that. I have dealt with some great people & gotten some awesome deals!

Well its unfortunate that you feel that way about E-bay. I personally sell on ebay and from what I noticed E-bay is usually out to protect the seller. You should try contacting e bay and telling them the situation. Most likely it was an automated response from ebay that gave you that mark. Contact e-bay and they will be more than happy to help you. Remember if your nasty with them they will give you a nasty response.

This is not rare on ebay. Beware if there's another bidder with zero feedback bidding you up. It may be innocent but it's not worth the risk ...leave that item alone. People even have friends with alot of feedback who will bid the price up...Its hard to identify when this happens. I remember I had a few occasions when the price was bid up by a zero feedback bidder. On each occasion I pulled out & let the zero bidder win. Call me cynical if you want, but I found it very strange that within 10 minutes of the auction ending..I repeat within 10 minutes...I was sent a second chance offer. Paypal is irrelevant in this case. A bidder does not have to have a paypal account to bid you up. I agree that Ebay is a place where there are cheaters. It is a risk one takes..a calculated risk though because the more experience you have on eBay the more you can spot the warning signs but its not foolproof. There are many many reputable sellers on eBay...but be prepared, the more you buy then every now & again you will be "done". Luckily it's not often but it does happen.

How do you know she was bidding against you? If she was bidding against you, she must have been using a different computer, as the IP address has to a different IP address to the seller. I buy and sell on Ebay, and would like to advise all buyers and sellers to trade through Paypal, that way you covered for scams and robbers.

Mr. X.

i personally have never bought anything from ebay because there are many swindlers out there. my man bought rims from there, and he was given just ONE rim, as opposed to the standard 4. who would advertise to sell just one car rim? isn't that pretty retarded? don't most ppl, when they buy rims, expect to get a SET OF FOUR? Anyway, the seller got all pissy about it when my man wrote a scathing response about him. Then the seller wanted to get a good rep back so he contacted my man, asking him to send back the rim, and he'd credit the account...asking that my man take back his negative response. My man refused, and the seller is all pissy again. *See why I don't shop ebay??? So much drama!*

Me I returned a faulty protect about five weeks ago and they still magically did not receive it even though the post should take about three days. I am no longer buying anything from FLebay and I would advise others not to either. By the time the shipping costs are added in then you are not really getting a bargain and you have very little security if something goes wrong

If they suspended her accounts, doesn't it mean they believe you? Keep complaining to them, they've acknowledge she was doing something wrong so why should you get stuck with the goods.

if only you would name and shame this person.
